Position Summary:
Ensure the safety and security of all students and staff by preventing unauthorized individuals from accessing school property. Supervision to prevent, detect, and confront threats to students and the school and to help maintain discipline and orderly conduct within the school.
Supervision:
Works under the supervision of the Safety and Security Supervisor who assigns responsibilities and provides direction and guidance. Campus security follows district and school policies and procedures in fulfilling daily responsibilities.? Administrators are available to provide guidance in most situations. However, the campus security must be able and willing to independently exercise sound and reasonable judgment in emergency situations.
Duties and Responsibilities listed may include, but are not limited to the following:
Security staff are responsible for monitoring and securing key access points across campus. This includes:
- Stationing at the front gate to monitor all individuals entering and exiting the campus.
- Checking identification of all students and visitors.
- Notifying the front office via district-issued radio of each person entering the campus.
- Monitoring access to the main building from the front office.
- Ensuring all parents check in with the attendance secretary before being allowed to enter the building.
- Verifying all visitors pass through the Evolv Weapons Detection System.
- Allowing access only to individuals with a valid reason for entering campus (e.g., IEP meeting, administrator appointment).
- Conducting regular perimeter patrols, including fields, parking lots, and other external areas.
- Conducting interior building patrols..
- Using district-issued communication devices for all security communication.
- Rotating posts at irregular intervals to avoid creating predictable security patterns.
- Operate the Evolv Weapons Detection System alongside the assistant principal or their designee.
- Ensure all students enter through the front entrance in a single-file line.
- Monitor cameras for TMS school district.
- Ensure safety and security for school sponsored events.
- Follow all district policies and procedures.
Security personnel may be reassigned to different campuses to meet programmatic needs. Site administrators will be informed by the Safety & Security Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds and move or restrain more than 100 pounds when required to intervene in student safety issues.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during their duties.
- The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students, exposed to student noise, and learning resource noise levels.
- The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
- Must be able to pass the New Mexico Security Level II or III training, if required.
