Position Summary:
The CLSD Birth to age 5 Reading Coach is responsible for the assistance in development, coordination, monitoring and support of reading programs and professional services to preschools, teachers, and students.
Supervision:
The CLSD Birth to age 5 Reading Coach works with an elevated level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of a designated school administrator. The CLSD Birth to age 5 Reading Coach’s work is governed, controlled, and evaluated by acceptable professional practice, school and district policies and regulations, provisions of Taos Municipal Schools district policies and procedures, direction of the supervisor, and performance standards and expectations as set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.
Duties and Responsibilities listed may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Communicates effectively and professionally with staff.
- Conducts Individual classroom weekly/bi-weekly walkthrough observations with debriefing meetings.
- Coaches Teachers:
- Lesson modeling
- Reflective conversation
- Coordinate professional development opportunities.
- Individual professional development (PD)
- Small group PD
- Whole group Pd
- Apply foundations of reading to teacher professional development and classroom instruction.
- Effectively articulate how to implement effective strategies to address foundational needs of students, simple mode components of reading.
- Participates in Title I Reading PLC as leader/member.
- Participates with district leadership in walk-through observations.
- District representative for Pre-school strategic and improvement plans.
- Assists school in reading events.
- Development and initiation of parent teacher home visiting programs.
- Development and initiation of home reading programs.
- Collaborates with Birth-12th grade partners to align and implement effective language and literacy development programs.
- Coordinates, facilitates, and participates in Paso a Paso network as needed.
- Collaborates and supports school teams in analyzing reading data.
- Provides principal and district leadership reports.
- Assists student assistance teams (SATs) om identifying reading strategies and resources to support students at home and/or school.
- Required to follow board policies and procedures and stay abreast of updates and changes.
- Performs all other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree
- Valid teaching certification issued by NM PED
- Demonstrated knowledge for subjects/levels being taught.
- Ability to effectively communicate with parents. Students. And staff verbally and in writing.
- Reading endorsement (preferred)

- While performing the duties of this job, the teacher may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during their duties. The teacher may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.
- The teacher may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
