Bargaining Unit: Non-Certified (229 days, 8 hours per day)

 

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Technician develops, performs, coordinates, and documents maintenance of all building, grounds, and utility systems. Major emphasis on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, boilers, plumbing, and electrical systems using a computerized management system. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for collecting equipment data, updating, developing, implementing, and monitoring the maintenance program for the building, grounds, and utility systems. The Maintenance Technician will perform semi-skilled and skilled preventative maintenance and will work closely with outsourced maintenance companies. The Maintenance Technician will perform all maintenance activities in accordance with policies established by the Taos Municipal Schools Board of Education, the New Mexico Public Education Department and OSHA standards.

 

Supervision and Controls over the Work:

The Maintenance Technician works with a high level of independence and professional direction under the general supervision of the Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor who assigns work and responsibilities and sets priorities. The Maintenance Mechanic’s work is governed, controlled, and evaluated by acceptable professional practice, school and district policies and regulations, provisions of Taos Municipal Schools District policies and procedures, direction of the supervisor, and performance standards and expectations as set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ability to interact with supervisor, staff, vendors, and the public using a positive collaborative approach.
  • Ability to consistently complete assigned work while attending to multiple tasks and prioritizing projects to meet deadlines as directed.
  • Ability to problem solve and engage necessary staff/supervisors to address emerging facility issues.
  • Initiative and ability to work with minimal direction/monitoring; sound judgment and decision-making capabilities are essential.
  • General knowledge in repairs, installation, modification, and maintenance of plumbing fixtures in heating, water, and drainage systems.
  • General knowledge of building construction and all related framing components and subsystems.
  • General knowledge of line voltage and low voltage electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, cabinetry, locksmith/door/hardware, painting, welding skills, snow removal, mechanical equipment/HVAC systems, fire/security systems and maintenance trades.
  • General knowledge of maintenance/grounds equipment operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Required to attend and participate in professional development.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to operate computers and learn specific software programs.
  • Must model and maintain exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Operates district vehicles, equipment, and trucks.
  • Required to follow board policies; stay abreast of updates/changes.
  • Shall perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Successful recent work experience in a field related to the position.
  3. Valid New Mexico State Driver’s License.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Employees are required to properly use such safety equipment as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others.
  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in all seasons and all types of weather; may be exposed to high noise levels from tools and equipment; may also be exposed to high voltage electricity, heights, combined spaces, toxic chemicals, and some asbestos.
